Cutera’s LimeLight IPL is a light-based treatment that fades skin discolourations, such as sun damage, freckling, hyperpigmentation and generalised facial redness.
Perfect for clients wanting to reduce facial redness and nonmelasmic hyperpigmentation.
Pregnancy
Some medications (including oral Vitamin A, warfarin, antibiotics, blood-thinners, and long-term aspirin use)
Recent sun exposure
Artificial tan
Active cold sores in the treatment area
Inability to take downtime
We use light energy to target haemoglobin and melanin chromophores in the skin. The energy is converted to heat, allowing us to selectively improve the look of visible vessels and excess pigment. Destroyed melanin chromophores will immediately darken before causing a natural exfoliation of pigment.
LimeLight IPL causes a hot flicking sensation on the skin, which can feel particularly intense when treatment occurs under the eyes or near the corners of the nose.
Precare:
If you are prone to cold sores, we recommend using an over-the-counter prophylactic to reduce the risk of post-treatment breakout. Skin check prior to the treatment to ensure lesions are benign. IPL treatment does not cause a lesion to mutate, however removal of the pigment can delay diagnosis.
Aftercare:
Take it easy on your skin for five days, or until any reactions have subsided. Use a gentle cleanser morning and night, along with a moisturiser or your prescribed post-treatment product. As always, you should avoid direct sunlight, and wear a high SPF sunscreen and hat whenever outdoors. Avoid aggressive exercise for 48 hours. An over-the-counter antihistamine(such as Polaramine)may be used at night only to reduce the potential of post-treatment swelling. Elevating the head with an extra pillow while sleeping will help reduce swelling, and a cold compress can be used to further alleviate post-treatment heat and swelling
Expect at least 48 hours of downtime due to redness and heat in the treated area. Bruising, swelling and darkening in the treated area may persist for up to two weeks. The treated pigment will darken and micro-crust, and these patches will fall away by themselves in line with your skin's natural exfoliation process. Do not attempt to pick, scratch or exfoliate-this may permanently lighten or darken the affected skin. On rare occasions, you may require oral steroids to manage symptoms post-treatment.
We recommend one to three treatments at four to six-week intervals, followed by a review. Treatment number and intervals will be reviewed by your clinician based on your unique concerns
