What is Morpheus 8 and Who is it Good for?

Get to know the newest treatment on the James Vivian block, Morpheus 8.

If you’ve heard of fractional radio frequency (RF) micro-needling, then you most probably have heard of Morpheus 8. If not, then read on!

A fun fact, Laura was pestering James for this device for quite some time and promised that if he got it for The Porehouse, she would never leave. Well, guess you can confirm your Morpheus appointment with Laura for 2050+… as he got one!

Whilst Morpheus 8 is the newest device at James Vivian, we’ve actually had it for over a year. We’ve been loving the Morpheus experience thus far and so, thought it time to formally share this skin-changing modality with you.

So, how does Morpheus 8 work?

Great question and a great place to start. The Morpheus 8 device is exceptionally sophisticated as it harnesses and combines two therapies: Factional Radio Frequency and Micro-Needling.

Fractional Radio Frequency is the delivery of energy via radio waves into the middle layers of the skin. This process effectively tightens and remodels collagen, which is the naturally occurring protein giving our skin a youthful plump and elasticity. Unfortunately, collagen naturally depletes as we age (bummer), so radio frequency is a great tool in our age-management treatment kit. Radio frequency is also effective in the treatment of acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles, stretch marks, other scars and even hyperhidrosis (excessive sweating).

Micro-Needling is a well-loved and well used mechanical skin tool in our toolbox here at The Porehouse. Our device of choice is Dermapen 4, learn more about the treatment here. Essentially, a micro-needling device combines a bunch of tiny needles with a repetitive motion that pushes said needles out and in. The tool (guided by a Dermal Clinician) is glided over the skin in a pattern, leaving behind small micro channels in the skin from the needles.

These microchannels trigger the body’s natural healing response (ahem collagen and elastin production) and essentially result in improved skin texture. Micro-needling helps in the reduction of scarring, ageing, pigmentation and visible pores.

So, combine the two? You’ve got Morpheus 8, a dual action treatment that emits radio frequency through tiny needles, assisting in a deeper penetration and more impressive results (when compared to using them separately). Which also works wonders for a multitude of skin concerns…

What skin concerns is Morpheus 8 great at treating?

Thanks to the combination of dual technologies mentioned above, Morpheus 8 is a powerful tool for loads of different things. Notably we use it to target textural skin concerns, such as acne scarring, other forms of scarring, visible pores and more. One of the greatest uses for this device is to target areas of skin ageing that require refinement, tightening and contouring, such as the eyes, mouth, jowls and neck (we can get right up in the under-eye area!)

What does it feel like?

Whilst topical numbing does take the sting out of the treatment (and we offer this!), a manageable feeling of warmth and skin pricking can still be felt. A warm sensation for a few hours post-treatment can also be experienced, but you’re tough and you got this!

The discomfort factor is very client specific (yes that’s you) so whilst some may struggle with the sensation, many are totally comfy throughout the duration of the treatment. We do all we can to get you through the process and by golly are those results worth it!

What should I know before my treatment?

We recommend you have a proper read through the specifics that determine if you/your skin is an ideal candidate for Morpheus 8, do so here. Your James Vivian clinician will also discuss these with you, pre-treatment or during a consultation.

When it comes to downtime, expect to take it easy on your skin for the 5 days following your Morpheus 8 treatment. Refrain from actives such as vitamins A and C, top up on hydrators and sunscreen and please (oh please) stay out of the sun.
